Search For Brooklyn Rooftop Gunman Intensifies Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:30 PM PDT BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CBS 2) – The search is on for a rooftop gunman who shot and killed a man who was on the job as a deliveryman, CBS 2′s Lou Young reports. Additional detectives were assigned Tuesday to the investigation of Jorge Martinez's murder in Brooklyn as his family prepares to bury him. Jennifer Martinez, 16, wants to know who killed her father, firing a gun from a rooftop in Brooklyn Friday night, and how her family is going to pay for the funeral and transport of his body back to Ecuador. "I want to bury him in peace. We want to bury him next to his dad," Martinez said. "And we have a sister who died there, too, and we wanted them to be together." Jorge Martinez was the breadwinner, sending money back to his ex-wife and their two teenaged children. The shots that killed him came through the roof of his delivery van has he drove by the Marlboro houses in Gravesend. Police aren't wild about using the term "sniper." They say whoever shot Martinez was no marksman, but rather just someone taking pot shots at parked cars before hitting Martinez's delivery van as it drove by. The building the shooter shot from is old and has a known drug location on the top floor. A lot of residents are afraid to go out at night. "It's scary," said Veronica Lopez, resident. "I want to move soon because I have a girl and I worry about it." She heard the shots, as did another resident who did not want his name released. "I heard the shots," he said. "But I didn't think anything of it because they shoot all the time around here." Detectives are pressing hard, but having a difficult time identifying a suspect. Reward money is being offered for information. Martinez's son, Jorge Jr., turned 14 on Tuesday. He had planned to celebrate his birthday with his father. "Everything he did, he did for us, like that night job, he did it for us because my birthday was today," Jorge Jr. said. "So he could have money to take us out to eat and buy myself a present. I guess all I can do now is go to school and be, accomplish what I told him I wanted to be in the future." The wake is planned for Wednesday. Police have yet to make an arrest in the case. Job Board JobServe.ca Announces Fall 2010 Release Posted: 08 Sep 2010 06:15 AM PDT Press Release Source: JobServe.ca On Wednesday September 8, 2010, 9:15 am EDT OTTAWA--(Marketwire - 09/08/10) - As part of their fall 2010 release, JobServe.ca has today revealed its new homepage, enhanced job search interface for candidates and a revamped job posting process for employers. Les Powell, General Manager (Product & Service Delivery), said, "In designing the new homepage we have remained true to our core values. Candidates want to find jobs, and employers want to find candidates. Our role is one of a broker, easing the online recruitment process as best we can. JobServe is the preferred job board of many because of its straight forward design. We have always resisted turning our homepage into a 'flashing billboard' and sidetracking users from the purpose of their visit." As part of the new home page design, job seekers are now able to quickly search jobs by location or industry in addition to the recently enhanced 'power search.' The 'power search' interface combines the basic search function with additional filters including: employer type, salary range, work eligibility and category. Job Seekers and Employers also benefit from JobServe's 'best match' technology which ensures search results are based on relevancy. "Unlike other job boards, we have vehemently opposed allowing any other factor to influence the order in which jobs are displayed to candidates. This ensures the best experience for our candidates and employers," commented Powell. The revamped job posting interface provides employers with the following time saving features:
Commenting on the revamped job posting interface, Kathryn O'Brien, Sales Manager, said, "For any job board, the ability for employers to easily post jobs is one of the most important features. Our new job posting interface works for everyone -- guiding new users through the posting process, while allowing more experienced users to add a job quickly." Additional service enhancements for employers include: a restructured 'Featured Job' product and the introduction of 'International Featured Jobs.' "Many of the enhancements have come listening to our customers and job seekers and we welcome their continued feedback," concluded O'Brien.
