UNK event offers job search tools, outlook info (Kearney Hub)

KEARNEY — The University of Nebraska at Kearney plans a job outlook and search tools workshop Monday at the Ockinga Seminar Center.

"This workshop may be especially valuable for UNK students deciding on career direction and opportunities, but job seekers from the community are also welcome," said Shawn Kaskie, UNK Center for Rural Research and Development director.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the center and the UNK Office of Academic and Career Services. The hourlong event, which will begin at 4 p.m., is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

Guest speakers from Nebraska Workforce Development and Career Link will share information about the job outlook and about online tools available in Nebraska to help with job searches.

Nikki Masek, interim director of the Buffalo County Economic Development Council, and Tish Meyer, job placement coordinator for the Community Action Partnership of Mid Nebraska, will share information on local services.

"One key piece of information that will be presented is based on a recent records research of college graduates," Kaskie said. "The research will show if recent graduates were successful in finding jobs in Nebraska and the projected employment figures for key Nebraska industries though 2016."

Presentations include "Forward and Back: Occupation Trends Through 2016" by Mary Findlay, a Nebraska Workforce Development research analyst, and "Nebraska Career Link: Online Job Search Tool" by Rod Armstrong, AIM Institute vice president for strategic partnership.
